Fell in love with @sarahpricelandscapes and her painterly composition at Chelsea in 2007. Roll forward 18yrs and was thrilled to see she was winging it to Australian for #ALC2025, thank you @outlandishventures . It was no surprise to hear she started her tertiary education with a Fine Arts degree but her love of plants and design won the day. Here is her tiny 2007 garden. Elements of this design still so evident in her practice today.

If the end of the world was nigh then Ronnen and Trace’s Daylesford Longhouse is where you need to be, cocooned inside this @partnershill designed, Robin Boyd award winning building. Housing a garden, animals and serious kitchen, the glasshouse like structure means survival for ornamental as well as plants which need protection from frost and cold climates.

I’m naming it a firecracker of Xanthorrhoea. The collective noun for native grass trees. A mass planting of Xanthorrhoea johnsonii X Glauca so stirring with the evocative woodsmoke caused by drizzle on the firepit.

As a plant lover, the discipline of what to leave

As a plant lover, the discipline of what to leave out of a garden design is the greatest challenge. How the garden fits with the borrowed landscape is another challenge. But most important, is the fit with the architecture and lifestyle of our clients. In the case of this entrance garden, we chose biomorphic, horizontal shapes which juxtapose the vertical elements of the house. A simple Japanese inspired plant palette is a coda to the verdant park opposite and a resting place for the phosphorescent jacaranda blossom.
