Strobilanthes are Monocarpic - plants that die aft Strobilanthes are Monocarpic - plants that die after flowering. Sadly so many of our Strobilanthes are flowering at the moment. Affectionately known as ‘Strobes’ by us, these Indian natives, Strobilanthes gossypinus are a favourite. They have a self determined dome, a various felted range of leaves and easy going love of sun or shade. Beautiful silver structure. Oh and they fit in anywhere. Time to make cuttings.

The romance of a Piet Oudolf garden. A visit to Ha The romance of a Piet Oudolf garden. A visit to Hauser and Wirth gallery Somerset has long been on the lust list. Art combined with a Piet Oudolf designed garden, and beautiful buildings and interiors - bliss.

Just 10yrs, the garden feels at peak performance and the romance of his artful drifts of perennials on full display.

Exquisite restaurant, bookshop, courtyards and galleries. Double Bliss.

How to feel like a child again? Experience the Gre How to feel like a child again? Experience the Great Dixter gardens. Garden after garden of head height flowers and foliage, tightened and released by yew corridors, arches and hedged paths. It was right back into Frances Hodgson Burnett’s secret garden. Riotous colour too, the full range of a Derwent coloured pencil box. Originally conceived by the late owner and great gardener and writer Christopher Lloyd and now managed so passionately by Fergus Garrett and team, the gardens are so immersive and joyous. Great Dixter has been through a remodelling by Edwin Lutchens in 1910 and many of his beautiful details are evident throughout the garden. A fitting finale!

Thank you Rebecca Lemonius (who along with husband Lars are the current owners of Long Barn) for her warm welcome and vivid historical account. Loved Dan Pearson’s Delos garden at Sissinghurst. 👏🏼

Sheffield is now officially the greenest city in t Sheffield is now officially the greenest city in the UK. Due no doubt to the fact that it is also home to the Sheffield School of Planting and the oldest Landscape Architecture school in UK. Both James Hitchmough and Nigel Dunnett are major contributors to the green wellbeing of this city.

Nigel pied pipered us through the Grey to Green Project. - 1.5km of street gardens. Extraordinary achievement both socially and environmentally.

His website states that his work has been to move the consideration of planting design and landscape horticulture from a largely cosmetic, decorative and functional role, to one that is also central to the discussion of how to address the major problems of climate change and a sustainable future.
Bravo 👏🏼

A visit also to NFP Pictorial Meadows - another Nigel brainchild. Creating sustainable perennial meadows sold by the planted square metre. Vision to reality and getting stuff done!

Grandeur and magnificence at every turn. Entering Grandeur and magnificence at every turn. Entering via a meticulously edited pastoral landscape, Chatsworth reveals itself nestled into a hillside. With the purpose of seeing The Rockery, most recently designed and updated by Tom Stuart-Smith, it was hard not to be drawn out into all other areas of the garden some peppered with great contemporary sculpture. The maze garden, 100 steps and the kitchen garden areas were just a few.

The treat of treats - a visit to horticulturist an The treat of treats - a visit to horticulturist and academic James Hitchmough’s personal garden. He’s an honorary Australian having lectured at Burnley, Vic and consulted widely in Australia. As with many personal gardens, his is an experimentation of layered plant mixes and soil substrates to create a ecologically beneficial naturalistic meadow which is intensely planted near the house and bleeds into a sparser meadow, small trees and pond beyond.
